I am thinking of starting a new segment for my YouTube channel titled “Off-Label” where I would share my own observations and experiences regarding the dysfunction I encountered throughout my own medical training and talk about what it’s really like to become a doctor. I could also share my thoughts on current events in healthcare, such as physician burnout and what I’ve observed as the undiscussed contributing factors. This segment would largely serve as a more realistic counterpoint from an insider’s perspective to the often romanticized and idealized world of medicine as portrayed in the media. Often times we turn to avoidance when we experience uncomfortable feelings. Turning to alcohol, cannabis, food, video games, porn, or other things to numb, escape, or tune out. But what if we paused to consider the following instead: What is the underlying message behind these feelings? Sh*tty feelings are often just information that our life as it is currently constructed isn’t working for us or that there are certain things we are neglecting. For example, not being assertive in communicating our needs, or not having boundaries and overextending ourselves in relationships in order to not hurt someone else while inconveniencing ourself in the process, etc. What are your feelings trying to tell you?
